Why Did I Choose Pediatrics?

As a pediatrician in our community, and as a working mother of two, I have a unique understanding of parental stresses and concerns. Knowledge and comfort that used to be passed down from generation to generation no longer does as society has evolved. I believe that the key components to success in pediatric medicine is devoting time to your patients and establishing an intimate relationship with the families in your practice. Parents often feel that they should not “waste” the doctor’s time with questions related to basic parental concerns such as bedtime routines, toilet-training, discipline and feeding schedules. However, these day-to-day issues can have a huge impact on the wellbeing of parents and children alike. Families in my community need more than just prescriptions- they need supportive care, guidance and most importantly, comfort in knowing that they are not alone.
